AEC CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Description*
- Two-Year Term (Max. of 2 Consecutive Terms)
- Expected to possess time management, communication, leadership skills, and the professionalism required to maintain correspondence and assist not just other athlete members, but non-athlete members of the organization.
- Shall be actively participating members of the AEC at its meetings and assist and communicate with the AEC officers as directed. Responsible for completing projects as assigned by AEC officers and serving as a voting members of the USA Swimming House of Delegates.
- If desired, may additionally apply to serve as an athlete representative on a USA Swimming National Committee**
Eligibility Requirements
- Within the 24 months before election, demonstrate that they are actively engaged in amateur athletic competition; and/or represented USA Swimming in competition at any of following meets within the past 10 years: Olympics, World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, or Pan American Championships
- Be at least 18 years of age
- A member of USA Swimming in good standing
- Have at least one year of satisfactory leadership and/or convention experience in USA Swimming that extends beyond LSC representation OR professional or leadership experience relevant to the AEC.
- Not concurrently be serving as a Zone Athlete Representative***
Commitment
- Varies from ~2 to 8 hours bi-weekly, with higher commitment in the summer and the weeks leading up to USA-S convention and required USA-S athlete workshops. (Accommodations may be requested for travel dates to USA-S National Convention.)
- Must attend required meetings of the AEC and be available as needed by the AEC Officers, as well as be comfortable with engaging in the more administrative duties of athlete representation within the USA Swimming structure.
