San Diego Imperial Swimming
Throughout my five years of being involved in USA-Swimming governance, I’ve continued to learn how powerful the athlete voice is. Being an Athlete Representative brings a responsibility of creating opportunities and advocating for a thriving environment for athletes. I’ve had the honor of being a part of the Athletes’ Executive Committee since August 2020, and would be thrilled to serve another term. During my time in the AEC, I served as the DEI Liaison and became the Interim Chair of the committee in January 2022. These positions allowed me to create connections across USA-Swimming. Through the DEI Liaison position, I was able to create educational resources for LSC Athlete Representatives and facilitate DEI Workshops. The skills I learned from being DEI Liaison transferred over to my role as Chair, prioritizing inclusivity as we moved along our projects. The biggest project of the AEC this year is proposing three legislation proposals to the 2022 House of Delegates. All three proposals have the purpose of creating a better environment for athletes. As Chair during this process, it was amazing to see the AEC come together and connect with members throughout USA-S to advocate for athletes of all levels. My experience as an Athlete Representative at both the LSC and National level has provided me the skills to be one of the best athlete advocates, through an AEC position. If I were to be elected to the AEC for a second term, my goal would be to continue to create change that will move the sport forward. This would be executed by amplifying the LSC Athlete Representative’s voice throughout USA-S.Together, I believe that we can continue to shape the sport for the better.
